2 attempts and I couldn’t get through this film. It’s best avoided.

Will Ferrell is turning into Elvis – the exact same film every year but playing a character with a different kooky profession.
Yes, this film ticked every Ferrell box:
Man previously at the top of his profession hits rock bottom but thanks to a partnership that shouldn’t really work, he manages to rise like a pheonix from the ashes in a flurry of comedy moments.
What saved the previous movies is that his characters were strong in spite of the films getting progessively weaker. In this instance EVERYTHING stinks. Initial research has unconvered a raft of indifferent comments on STEP BROTHER. Could the Ferrell bubble have burst?
Melinda and Melinda was a high point.
He’s a mystery to me. Clearly a talented guy but seems to be happy to just take the money with no concern for his CV.
I have no doublt that if someone asked him to do a job in a better movie he could step up. Given his box office appeal he must get offers too.
just seems to have no ambition to improve himself.
I watched Melinda and Melinda this afternoon and have to say I’m warming to it. Despite the clunkiness of its construction, some questionable performances and an ending you can see a mile off, it’s not the horrible turkey many people say it is. That prize goes to Celebrity.
Ferrell isn’t too bad either. He’s guilty of overacting but I suspect he’s been directed that way, being the comedy version of the story.
I agree Matt. These Ferrell vehicles that require nothing more than regurgitating his previous performances are wearing thin. I think the ambition will come when the failures start rolling in.
You may well be right, however once the mainstream lose thier love for him perhaps the offers will dry up too.
Maybe he needs to go away for a decade and await the call from Quentin T to rejuvinate his career ala Travolta.
Close your eyes and imagine Ferrell dancing opposite Uma Thurman at Jack Rabbit Slim’s…. Hmmm
He’ll soon be kicking Judd Apatow’s door in and offering up his wife in return for another break.
Now if he was to kick Judd Apatow’s face in I may pay to see that!
What if he was to beat Judd Apatow to a pulp using Seth Rogen’s severed arm??
In saying that…. KNOCKED UP wasn’t bad….
I re watched this film 2 nights ago whilst under the influence and found it hilarious. Saying that, like you I have tried to watch it about 3 time before and had to turn it off each time.
Stranger than Fiction was a sidestep away from his usual comedy capers, still not brilliant though but its nice to see him do some ‘semi serious’ acting in it. He’s more of a character than a talent if you ask me..
Yeah, kinda like those Cheech and Chong movies. Absolute bollocks unless stones with a group of equally stones friends.
That’s a good point actually. When Jim Carrey was on the slump he got THE TRUMAN SHOW and ETERNAL SUNSHINE under his belt which earned him some credability, now he’s gone back to what he was doing before
